Landscape design for a renovated Arts and Crafts house surrounded by rural pasture. The challenge of linking garden and landscape forms the basis of the project. Following in the Arts and Crafts tradition, the formal garden was arranged as a series of defined rooms. In order to overcome the strict separation of the garden from its setting, various techniques were used to blend the garden into the landscape. In some areas hedges were removed to introduce the fields into the garden, in other areas new fragmented hedges were added to create framed views. Paths were projected into the meadowland and varied mowing regimes were introduced to re-order the hierarchy of spaces between the garden and its landscape setting.
